For Pet Owners
  • If you own a pet, please consider adding it to our Pet Registry database. Your personal information will only be accessible by residents of Encanto Village, and will only be used to reunite lost or found pets with their original owners.
  • Do not let your pets roam. The City HEART ordinance and the HOA CC&R’s mandate that your pets, cats included, stay on your property, or be on a leash when out in the community.
  • Please pick up after your pets if you walk them. Be considerate and don’t leave their messes for your neighbors to deal with.
  • Tag your pets so that if they go missing, a neighbor doesn’t have to find a place to take it to check for a microchip in order to get it back to you. Some may not bother. A tag that has your phone number on it is the easiest way for someone to contact you if they have found your pet.
  • Consider microchipping. If your pet is picked up by Animal Services and they cannot determine its owner by ID tags — or if your pet’s collar has been lost, torn away, or removed — your pet may be adopted out to someone else. A microchip can’t be lost or removed like a collar, so it will always be there to “speak” for your pet.
  • Keep your pets safe if they are in a yard by padlocking the gate so someone cannot open it and steal your pet or let it out. Small dogs and cats are sometimes carried off by hawks or coyotes. They are not safe in the yard. Dogs are sometimes stolen and resold. Better not to leave any pets outdoors while you are gone.
  • Pets that are left outside in the cold or really hot weather have more illnesses and joint problems and don’t live as long as animals that are kept inside. Bring all animals inside when the weather gets below 40 degrees. Make sure they always have access to fresh water, as well.
  • It’s a common misconception that dogs and cats won’t get cold because of their fur. If you are not able to bring in your animal during the night, the City of Albuquerque is offering free straw every year during the winter months.
  • If you are concerned about the welfare of a neighbor’s pet, you can call 311 and ask that they do a welfare check. You do not need to leave your name or number.
